Obsidian

Obsidian skill connects your Claude agent to your local Obsidian vault via the Obsidian Local REST API plugin. No cloud sync required — all data stays on your machine. The agent can create new notes, append to existing ones, search across your entire vault by content or title, read note contents, and manage tags and frontmatter properties.

Bidirectional linking is fully supported: the skill can add [[wikilinks]] to new notes and retrieve the backlink graph for any note, enabling your agent to surface connected ideas when you explore a topic. Template support means new notes can be created using your existing Obsidian templates, keeping formatting consistent with your vault's conventions.

Popular workflows: capture insights from web research directly into your vault with auto-generated tags and links to related notes, build a daily note that pulls in tasks and journal prompts, or ask your agent to find all notes related to a concept and synthesize a summary. For writers, the skill enables 'vault chat' — ask questions about your own writing and get answers grounded in your existing notes. Requires installing the Obsidian Local REST API community plugin in Obsidian (free) and running Obsidian with the plugin active. No external API key needed. Privacy-focused users who keep sensitive notes out of cloud services particularly value this skill.
